Pharyngeal follicular hyperplasia does not cause chest discomfort. There are two possible causes of chest pain: on the one hand, the inflammation of the throat, which causes mucosal congestion and oedema, causes breathlessness and chest pain; on the other hand, as the position of the chest and the oesophagus corresponds, the reflux of gastric contents into the oesophagus and throat may cause chest pain due to acid reflux burning the oesophagus.
