Effects of febuxostat on the heart

Febuxostat is mainly used for the treatment of hyperuricemia. For cardiac effects, it has been found in clinical trials that the application of febuxostat can increase cardiovascular adverse events, such as angina pectoris or even myocardial infarction, relative to allopurinol and other uric acid-lowering drugs. However, the cause of its occurrence is unknown and the incidence is very low. Patients can use it with confidence for the time being, and if a condition similar to angina occurs, they should consult their local doctor promptly and choose whether to further apply this drug for uric acid-lowering treatment. Currently high uric acid is also a high risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary atherosclerosis, and oral febuxostat can prevent cardiovascular diseases by lowering uric acid.
