How long does it take to recover from a nephrectomy

The recovery time of nephrectomy is related to the type of surgery, individual’s physical condition and post-operative care, there is no fixed data, and it takes roughly more than 1 month. Nephrectomy can be applied to all types of diseases of the kidney, including renal tumors, infectious renal lesions, severe hydronephrosis, and donor kidney removal. The healing time of the body surface wound after nephrectomy is about 3 weeks, but the internal recovery is related to many factors such as the type of surgery, the complexity of the surgery, and the patient’s physical condition. If the surgery is not extensive and the abdominal cavity is in good condition, the recovery time required by the patient is about 1 month. However, if the patient has a large surgical scope and complex conditions such as adhesions and infections in the abdominal cavity, such as tumor patients, whose underlying conditions are poor, the recovery time required is longer. It is recommended that patients who have undergone nephrectomy should strictly follow medical advice, actively cooperate with treatment, pay attention to rest, have a balanced diet and consume more high-quality protein to facilitate disease recovery.
