Can peripheral lung cancer be cured?

Surgery is the only treatment that may cure lung cancer.
Primary peripheral lung cancer should be considered cured after surgery for early stage peripheral lung cancer, with no lung lesions detected on annual follow-up examinations and a follow-up period of >5 years.
It is important to note that the probability of developing a second primary lung cancer is 3-5% for patients with long-surviving small cell lung cancer and non-small cell lung cancer.
