What are the consequences of untreated prostate enlargement?

If prostatic hyperplasia is not treated in time, not only will symptoms such as frequent urination, urinary urgency and difficulty in urination persist and gradually worsen, but it may also cause a variety of complications. The common complications are as follows: 1) Acute urinary retention: A large amount of urine is retained in the bladder, and the patient has an obvious urge to urinate, but cannot discharge it on his own, which is very painful. An emergency indwelling catheter is required to drain the urine from the bladder; 2) Urinary tract infection: the bladder cannot empty the urine completely and there is residual urine. Urine is a good bacterial culture medium and bacteria can easily grow and cause urinary tract infections. People with prostate enlargement have a much higher chance of urinary tract infections than those who are not prostate enlargement. 3) Bladder stones: Because of the long-term presence of residual urine in the bladder, salt crystals in the urine are easily deposited to form stones. The actual fact is that you can find a lot of people who have been in the business for a long time. The two promote each other and aggravate the symptoms and complications of prostate enlargement. 4) Hematuria: Prostatic hyperplasia triggers hematuria for the reasons mentioned earlier. Urinary tract infections and bladder stones can promote the occurrence of hematuria. 5) Hydronephrosis and renal function impairment: If the urinary tract obstruction due to prostatic hyperplasia is not corrected for a long time, the bladder gradually loses its compensatory function and chronic urinary retention occurs which further causes upper urinary tract obstruction and hydronephrosis. The persistence of hydronephrosis affects the kidney function, and renal insufficiency and even uremia will occur after the kidney function is damaged to a serious degree. 6) Hemorrhoids and hernias: Because of the increased resistance to urination caused by prostate enlargement, the pressure in the abdominal cavity rises when you forcefully urinate, and in the long run, hemorrhoids and hernias will be easily formed. 7) Because of long-term urinary obstruction and frequent urination, urinary difficulties, resulting in serious psychological burden and mental tension, affecting the rest and life of patients, coupled with the fact that most prostate enlargement occurs in middle-aged and elderly people, which makes it easier to induce a series of diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart failure, cerebrovascular disease, which in turn endangers the quality of life and health of patients.
