Post-surgical rehabilitation for Achilles tendon rupture mainly focuses on restoring the mobility of the ankle joint and training the muscle strength of the calf muscle groups.
Within four weeks after surgery, you can gradually perform toe flexion and extension activities as well as leg muscle contraction exercises. Four weeks after the operation, you can exercise the strength of leg muscles and knee flexion and extension activities. At five or six weeks after surgery, you can gradually move the ankle joint and continue to strengthen the muscles of the affected limb. Seven to eight weeks can be partially weight-bearing crutches, and gradually increase the amount of activity until the abandonment of the crutches.
In the training process, patients can focus on the ankle joint to actively hook the foot, step down and rotary movement training, the movement can be gradually from simple to complex, the strength from light to heavy.
As the Achilles tendon heals relatively slowly, the patient should focus on flexion and extension of the joints, without muscle strength training for the time being, and then gradually carry out muscle strength training three to four months after the operation.
It is recommended that patients carry out rehabilitation exercises under the guidance of a doctor, in order to avoid injuries caused by improper operation of self-exercise.
