Astragalus is a Chinese medicine with a sweet taste and mildly warm nature that belongs to the spleen and lung meridians. It has the effects of elevating yang and lifting sinking organs, benefiting the guards and consolidating the surface, strengthening the spleen and tonifying the middle, diuretic, and supporting toxin and muscle growth (discharging toxins and evils to promote muscle growth and wound healing).
Astragalus is mainly used in treating lung and spleen qi deficiency resulting in prolapse of organs, coughing and wheezing, shortness of breath and fatigue (lack of spirit); paralysis; deficiency of qi and blood, sores and ulcers that are difficult to ulcerate and putrefy; and qi deficiency and spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with a little movement).
It is important to note that Astragalus is contraindicated in cases of superficial solidity and at the beginning of sores, so as not to close the door and keep the enemy (the pores of the skin are closed so that the evil qi stays in the body and cannot come out).
