Nystagmus is a congenital genetic disorder for which there is no effective treatment, but only indirect treatments to improve the symptoms of nystagmus, such as refractive error of the eyes, including farsightedness, astigmatism and myopia, which can be improved by wearing glasses to improve visual acuity and reduce the performance of nystagmus; or by wearing trigeminal lenses to eliminate compensatory head position, thus improving or suppress the nystagmus. Surgery can also be used to improve or eliminate the compensatory head position and improve vision, but it cannot cure the nystagmus. If nystagmus is present, it is often combined with other congenital disorders such as amblyopia or congenital cataracts, and symptomatic treatment is required.
