What does Hip Offset mean?

Hip offset is the eccentricity of the femur, the full name is Femoraloffset.

The eccentricity of the hip joint refers to the vertical distance from the center of rotation of the femoral head to the long axis of the femur, which is commonly known as the vertical distance from the center of the femoral head to the extension line of the thigh bone, and the normal eccentricity should be 3~4 cm for both men and women.

Hip eccentricity is an important indicator for hip replacement and revision. If the eccentricity is too large, it will lead to muscle tension on the outer thigh, which will cause pain in the hip joint and affect the range of motion when moving.

If the eccentricity is too small; it will cause relaxation of the external rotator muscles, which will easily affect the stability of the hip joint when doing large-scale activities, cause hip dislocation, and aggravate the wear and tear of the prosthesis.

The appearance of hip joint disease must be timely to the regular hospital consultation and treatment, do not deal with it on your own, so as not to delay the condition.
