Does it matter if the spleen is large

Splenomegaly can be divided into physiological splenomegaly and pathological splenomegaly, and whether or not it is important needs to be decided according to the patient’s specific situation, rather than being generalized. In some young men, the long diameter and transverse diameter of the spleen are found to be slightly larger than normal during a physical examination. If there are no other abnormal indicators, there is no need to worry too much and the spleen is physiologically enlarged. Pathological splenomegaly can be caused by infectious diseases, such as viral hepatitis, chronic schistosomiasis, chronic malaria, etc.; it can also be caused by non-infectious diseases, such as liver cirrhosis, chronic constrictive pericarditis, idiopathic non-sclerotic portal hypertension, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatomyositis, etc. Pathological splenomegaly is usually more serious and requires active treatment of the primary disease. After the primary disease is controlled, the spleen may return to normal, but splenectomy may also be performed if necessary. While treating the primary disease, patients with splenomegaly should choose foods that strengthen the spleen and nourish the stomach, such as fungus, sweet potato, fish, milk, yam, etc.
