Appendicitis treatment protocol

Once the diagnosis of appendicitis is clear, the preferred treatment option is early resection. Surgical removal of the appendix is simple and easy to perform, and postoperative complications are relatively few. If the surgery is delayed, not only is the surgical removal difficult, but the postoperative complications also increase accordingly. Different types of appendicitis have different surgical methods. Simple septic appendicitis can be removed in one stage with good incision healing and fewer complications, or the appendix can be removed by minimally invasive interventional laparoscopy. However, some special types of appendicitis, such as periappendiceal abscess, appendicitis during pregnancy, elderly patients with poor health who cannot tolerate surgery, patients with more underlying medical diseases and cardiac insufficiency can be treated with non-operative therapy, application of sensitive antibiotics and anti-inflammatory symptomatic support. For chronic appendicitis, most of them come due to the migration of acute appendicitis and are routinely admitted to hospital and also surgically removed if clearly diagnosed.
