Superficial gastritis usually does not develop into stomach cancer.
If it is early superficial gastritis, as long as timely detection and standardized treatment, it can be cured and generally will not develop into stomach cancer. If superficial gastritis is caused by Helicobacter pylori infection, with the gradual progress of the disease, it may develop into chronic atrophic gastritis, and finally, it is likely to further develop into stomach cancer. Thus, superficial gastritis is not directly related to stomach cancer.
If superficial gastritis progresses to chronic atrophic gastritis, accompanied by intestinal metaplasia or heterotrophic hyperplasia, the chances of developing into gastric cancer will increase.
Therefore, once you have superficial gastritis, early detection and early treatment should be done to kill the disease in the early stage and minimize the chance of malignant disease. Even if superficial gastritis is cured, it is recommended to go to the hospital for regular checkups.
