The incidence of lung cancer in China has shown a new normal of early, young, female, adenocarcinoma and multi-source. In response to this trend, the public should update the concept of prevention and treatment, get out of the misunderstanding, raise the awareness of early diagnosis and treatment, and understand the modern precise treatment mode, so as to get rid of the disease with smart treatment and achieve long-term survival. Ms. Wang, 48, who usually has no bad habits, was recently found to have an 8 mm sized “ground glass shadow” in her lung during a physical examination. Several hospitals ruled that “early stage lung cancer is highly likely”. Although the lesion was small and there was no final diagnosis, Ms. Wang decided to undergo surgery. The pathology confirmed that the lesion was adenocarcinoma of the lung with no metastasis in the lymph nodes, which was early stage. She recovered well after the surgery and started working 2 weeks later. In recent years, the number of similar lung cancer cases is increasing, showing 5 important trends of early stage, young age, feminization, adenocarcinoma, and multi-origin (increase of multiple primary lung cancer cases). This is in contrast to the traditional concept that lung cancer patients are mostly elderly, smoking males, advanced stage patients, and squamous carcinoma. This corresponds to the new normal of treatment concept, method and efficacy, i.e., the inclusion of low-dose CT examination of the chest into the checkup program, relaxation of age and gender restrictions for low-dose CT screening, as well as early detection of early microscopic lung cancer; raising the level of awareness and importance of small nodules in the lung by doctors and patients, and timely adoption of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic measures once highly suspicious. Early stage lung cancer is very effective and does not require further radiotherapy, just like the removal of benign lesions, and mostly does not cause trouble for the rest of life. There are two misconceptions nowadays. One is that after small lung cancer is found, they are afraid of open-heart surgery or hold a fluke mentality and observe it for a long time according to inflammation and so on, so that it spreads and metastasizes during the follow-up period and misses the best time for treatment. Secondly, after the resection of small lung cancer, patients do not need any follow-up treatment, but after being discharged from the hospital, they change their attitude after being persuaded to see “experts” everywhere, take Chinese medicine and western medicine all the time, and even quit their jobs and “get well” at home for a long time, so their health becomes worse and worse. We hope to do what we can to further popularize the latest cancer prevention and treatment knowledge, pay attention to and correct the mentality of cancer patients, and help them to live with confidence and optimism.
