How facial palsy is detected

The onset of pediatric facial palsy is sudden, and parents find that one side of their child’s face is sluggish, numb and flaccid after waking up in the morning, that the corners of the child’s mouth are skewed to one side when laughing, that one side of the nasolabial fold is flat, or that one side of the child’s eyes cannot be closed when sleeping at night, that there is little facial expression on one side, that the two sides are obviously asymmetrical, and that one side of the mouth leaks air when the child is allowed to puff his cheeks.
