What is a cystic mass in the adnexal region?

Most of the cystic masses in the adnexal region are physiological and may be follicular cysts or luteal cysts. Most of these physiological masses will shrink or disappear after 2 months of ultrasound. If these cystic masses do not shrink or gradually increase in size after 2 months, they are ovarian tumors and need to be treated surgically. Cystic adenoma of the ovary or chocolate cyst of the ovary are common, and the ultrasound report will report cystic masses. However, ovarian cysts can easily twist and once they do, severe abdominal pain will occur and surgery will be needed. So if you have an ovarian cyst, don’t do strenuous activities and go to the hospital for a timely checkup if you have abdominal pain.
