Is hypoglycemia the same as hypotension?

Hypoglycemia and hypotension are two completely different diseases. Hypoglycemia refers to a decrease in the concentration of glucose in the blood. The concentration of fasting glucose in normal people is 3.9-6.1mmol/L, and when it is lower than 2.8mmol/L, it is called hypoglycemia. Hypotension generally refers to adult blood pressure below 90/60mmHg. The etiology, symptoms and treatment of both are also different.1. Etiology: Hypoglycemia is induced by too little glycogen in the body due to less food, hunger, etc.; or increased consumption due to running, hiking, etc.; or too much insulin in the body. Hypotension is caused by the decrease of blood volume in the patient’s blood vessels, such as massive dehydration, too little food, or burns or diarrhea that cause a large reduction of fluid in the body; 2. Symptoms: Patients with hypoglycemia will experience panic, cold sweat, accompanied by hunger, hand trembling, dizziness, and weakness. Patients with hypotension will experience dizziness, weakness, loss of skin elasticity, deep sunken eye sockets, blurred vision and even fainting; 3. Treatment: Patients with hypoglycemia should be given sugary food or intravenous input of glucose, adrenocorticotropic hormone and glucagon to quickly relieve the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Patients with hypotension need to input a large amount of liquid rehydration to make blood pressure rise. If postural hypotension occurs, the patient should be immediately made to lie down and rest, and massage the muscles of the limbs. Hypoglycemia and hypotension are two completely different diseases. Hypoglycemia is mainly due to abnormal body energy, while hypotension is a disorder in the cardiac circulatory system and a decrease in blood vessel pressure in the blood, so attention should be paid to differentiate and treat the cause.
