Hypoglycemic fainting is a common emergency, the main method of first aid is to replenish glucose, but different first aid methods need to be selected according to the patient’s state of mind. If the patient is a transient fainting, you can wake up and cooperate with the oral feeding, family members can feed sugar water, drinks, fruits, cookies, etc., to elevate the blood glucose so that the physical strength to recover, and let the patient rest, to ensure that the surrounding air circulation. If the patient is in a coma and can not wake up, it is not recommended to feed or drink sugar, otherwise there may be the risk of accidental inhalation of airways, should call 120 as soon as possible to wait for rescue, and make the patient’s head to the side, to prevent vomit reflux choking. The preferred method of glucose replenishment after seeking medical attention is intravenous 50% dextrose. Alternatively, glucose replenishment can be given via gastrostomy tube, where glucose injection is injected directly through the gastrostomy tube, and in most cases the patient will be awake after aggressive treatment. Regardless of the method of glucose supplementation, a continuous intravenous drip of 5%-10% glucose solution should be administered after the patient is awake. Blood glucose levels should also be checked every 1-2 hours, and glucose dosage should be adjusted according to the blood glucose level and monitored for at least 24-48 hours before determining whether the blood glucose is stable. If cerebral edema caused by hypoglycemic coma occurs, dehydration treatment should also be carried out at the same time. Patients suffering from hypoglycemia are advised to keep some candies and snacks with them in case of emergency.
