Whether or not penile ulcers are contagious is determined by the factors that cause them. If the penile ulcer is caused by long-term masturbation or taking sulfa or tetracycline drugs, it is generally not contagious; if the penile ulcer is caused by diseases such as syphilis hard chancre, genital herpes or shingles, it can be sexually transmitted.
