What to know about scoliosis

What is scoliosis? Scoliosis, also known as scoliosis, is a three-dimensional deformity of the spine that includes sequential abnormalities in the coronal, sagittal and axial positions. In a normal person, the spine should be straight from behind and symmetrical on both sides of the trunk. Scoliosis can be diagnosed if the orthopantomogram of the whole spine shows a lateral curvature with a cobb angle greater than 10 degrees. How is the cobb angle measured? Determine the end vertebrae of the scoliosis, the upper and lower end vertebrae are the vertebrae with the greatest inclination to the concave side of the scoliosis. Draw a horizontal line on the upper edge of the upper end vertebra, and a horizontal line on the lower edge of the lower end vertebra, and then make a perpendicular line on each of the two lines, and the angle of intersection of these two perpendicular lines will be the Cobb’s angle. (For a larger scoliosis, the direct intersection of the two lines will also be equivalent to the Cobb’s angle). All scoliosis is accompanied by rotation of the vertebral bodies, which is the primary factor in scoliosis. Vertebral rotation is categorized into five degrees on the X-ray according to the relative position of the pedicle projections in the vertebral body, and this method is more commonly used in clinical practice. What causes scoliosis? Most cases of scoliosis are of unknown origin, i.e., idiopathic scoliosis, which occurs in adolescents during puberty, and 80% of them are female. Other causes of scoliosis are congenital, unequal length of the lower limbs, neuromuscular disorders and other diseases. What are the effects of scoliosis? In mild cases, it affects the development, appearance and psychological growth of adolescents; in severe cases, it will squeeze the heart, lungs, stomach and intestines, affecting the respiratory and digestive systems, or other bodily functions. How can I check myself? Early scoliosis patients usually do not feel uncomfortable, and are often found at a later stage, but by this time it is already more serious, the cobb angle is usually greater than 30 degrees, and the best treatment and prevention period is missed. Therefore, parents should observe whether their children have the following symptoms of scoliosis, in order to treat it as soon as possible. What is the treatment for scoliosis? 1.The cobb angle is greater than 40 degrees, surgical treatment. 2.Cobb angle less than 40 degrees and more than 20 degrees, orthotic treatment, physical therapy 3.Cobb angle less than 20 degrees, physical therapy
