In China, there are about 3 million adolescents with scoliosis and about 300,000 in Guangdong Province. Scoliosis has become the third major problem affecting the growth of adolescents, following myopia and mental health. This “hidden killer” jeopardizes the healthy growth of young people in their flower season, and the harm it brings and the consequences it causes are no less than the first two. According to the 2013-2015 scoliosis school screening results of 340,000 secondary school students in 5 cities in Guangdong Province, the incidence of scoliosis was found to be about 5.4%. The reason for the high incidence of scoliosis is not only that the public lacks basic knowledge about the disease, but also that there are some misconceptions among parents of affected children. We often see some regrettable scenes: some adolescent scoliosis patients with a history of several years or even decades, but due to parental negligence did not timely diagnosis, and therefore missed the opportunity for treatment. Many parents mistake the changes in their children’s spine as a normal phenomenon during development, and even if some parents notice their children’s abnormalities, they mistakenly believe that they are caused by sitting or sleeping improperly, carrying too heavy a backpack, or having an inappropriate seat height, etc. In addition, because the disease is painless, it does not hurt, and it is not easy to treat. In addition, because the disease is painless, the onset is hidden, and most students live in school, it is difficult for parents, school teachers, and even primary hospitals to detect it, and even if they do, they think it has no effect and do not pay attention to it, which leads to the continued aggravation of the scoliosis and the delay of the best time to treat it. In addition, there are also many children who find abnormalities on their own but are too shy to inform their parents, thus delaying their condition; or students are informed after the school physical examination, but the students fail to pay attention to it and throw away the notification letter directly. Therefore, it is important to continue to increase the popularization of scoliosis.
