Hearing screening is a way to check for congenital hearing impairment in newborns. Failure of the hearing screening in both ears in newborns suggests that the child may have congenital hearing impairment, or there may be some other factors that interfere with the hearing screening. The results of one screening are not conclusive. A baby who fails a bilateral hearing screening at birth should be retested at 42 days, and a baby who fails two consecutive hearing screenings should be taken to a higher level hospital for further clarification of the diagnosis. When the baby is diagnosed with congenital hearing impairment, he/she needs to be given rehabilitation treatment in time to avoid affecting the development of language function in the future. The causes of hearing impairment may be caused by some special viral infections during pregnancy, taking special medications, etc. The exact causes are not exactly the same among different individuals.
