How is alcoholic tremor treated and prevented?

Alcoholic tremor is a common clinical symptom of alcoholic cerebral atrophy. Alcoholic cerebral atrophy refers to the irreversible reduction of brain tissue due to chronic alcohol consumption. It is controversial whether this disease constitutes an independent clinicopathological disorder. Some authors consider alcoholic cerebral atrophy to be a pathological concept, a term that first originated from studies of cerebral angiography. The term refers specifically to relatively young alcoholics with or without clinical signs of brain lesions, with brain imaging demonstrating enlarged lateral ventricles and widened frontal sulci. There are corresponding findings in modern imaging. Alcoholic tremor can be combined with peripheral neuropathy, muscle atrophy, tremor, hallucinations, delusions and seizures, and other manifestations of severe alcoholism. Therefore, active treatment and prevention are required. Treatment starts with abstinence from alcohol. Brain function can gradually improve after abstinence from alcohol, and psychological tests prove that IQ improves significantly within 3 weeks after abstinence. Vitamin deficiency may be the main cause of brain atrophy, therefore, multivitamin therapy should be given. Treatments such as increasing brain tissue nutrition and improving nerve cell metabolism should also be given symptomatically. In patients with alcoholic brain atrophy, the first thing is to overcome the “denial” from the patient and obtain the patient’s cooperation. Secondly, we should actively treat the primary disease and comorbidities, such as personality disorder, anxiety disorder, depression disorder and schizophrenia-like symptoms. Attention should also be paid to strengthening the patient’s nutrition and replenishing the body’s needs for electrical proteins, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids and other substances. A small amount of reasonable alcohol consumption may be beneficial to the human body, it is possible to regularly drink small doses of alcohol to improve the body’s blood circulation, but it is necessary to avoid long-term heavy drinking, in this case is also the main measure to prevent alcoholism leading to brain atrophy. You also need to pay attention to eating more fresh vegetables and fruits, especially green vegetables.
