Comprehensive domestic and foreign psychological experts on the study of the mental health standards of the elderly, combined with the actual situation of the elderly in China, the mental health standards of the elderly can be defined in the following five basic aspects. 1. Have normal sensation and perception, normal thinking and good memory. That is to say, when judging things, basically accurate, no illusion; when recalling past events, clear memory, no major forgetting; when analyzing problems, clear organization, no logical confusion; when answering questions, can answer freely, no non-answer; in ordinary life, have a relatively rich imagination, and good at using imagination to design a pleasant goal for themselves. 2. Have a sound personality. Emotionally stable and strong-willed. More positive emotions than negative emotions, able to correctly evaluate themselves and external things, able to control their own behavior, less blindness and impulsiveness. Will power is very strong and can withstand the strong stimulation of external things. The ability to find a way to express oneself in times of grief without being overwhelmed by it. The ability to rejoice in a measured manner when joyful, rather than getting carried away and overexcited. When encountering difficulties, can calmly use their own will and experience to overcome, rather than just sighing or grumbling. 3. Have good interpersonal relationship. Be willing to help others and to accept help from others. At home, you can maintain emotional harmony with your partner, children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, nephew, etc. You can get the heartfelt understanding and respect from your family. Outside the home, I maintain good relationships with my friends from the past and those I have made now. You don’t demand everything from people, you don’t demand too much from people, and you never appear to be hostile to others, but always appear to be kind to people. Whether in the formal group or in the informal group, have a sense of collective honor and social responsibility. 4. Can correctly perceive society and be consistent with the psychological activities of most people. For example, the view of society, the attitude towards reform, the analysis of domestic and foreign situation, the awareness of social morality and ethics, etc., can be basically consistent with the attitude of most people in the society. If this is not the case, then it is not accepting the society, and the pace of the times can not be synchronized with the same direction. 5. Able to maintain normal behavior. Can adhere to normal life, work, study, entertainment and other activities. All their behaviors are in line with their identities and roles in various occasions. These five aspects above are only the basic criteria to define the mental health of the elderly. Because many domestic and foreign experts and scholars have put forward many specific criteria from the perspective of their own research. However, no matter how many criteria there are, they all agree that the most important one is “basic normalcy”, that is, speaking and acting, understanding problems, logical thinking and interpersonal communication are all in the normal state. As long as they do not deviate from the “normal” track, then their mental health is up to standard.
