Currently, the first-line targeted agents that are unanimously recommended, including the Chinese kidney cancer guidelines, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) kidney cancer guidelines, and the European Association of Urology (EAU) kidney cancer guidelines, are Sunitinib (sunitinib) and pegaptanib (votrient), two targeted agents that provide 9-11 months of disease-progression-free survival and significantly extend overall survival in patients with metastatic kidney cancer.
The other targeted agent, sorafenib, is also recommended for first-line treatment of metastatic kidney cancer in Chinese kidney cancer guidelines because it has shown better efficacy in Chinese patients than in foreign patients, and the overall treatment effect is comparable to sunitinib in the Chinese population.
