A patient had a long history of constipation and was once hospitalized for intestinal obstruction due to constipation, which was relieved by conservative treatment. The patient’s sigmoid colon was about 80 cm long and extended all the way to the upper abdomen, and hard stool was found in this section of the intestine. This unexpected finding explained why the patient usually suffered from constipation and had intestinal obstruction. The underlying cause was the excessive length of the sigmoid colon and abnormal peristaltic function. There was a patient who also suffered from constipation and had a history of constipation for decades, with no significant effect from medication and injections. This time, he was hospitalized for surgery due to a gastric tumor. This patient had no history of previous abdominal surgery, no abdominal injury or inflammation. The patient’s constipation was also improved after the operation to release the adhesions. Combined with what I have learned, my suggestion: for long time constipation, you can do a dilute barium enema to understand the morphology of your colon, these abnormalities of the colon, colonoscopy is not clear! However, in the case of constipation that did not occur before and has occurred recently, it is recommended to choose colonoscopy to exclude intestinal obstructive diseases, such as tumors.
