Who needs to be screened for blood lipids?

  The 2007 “Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Dyslipidemia in Chinese Adults” states that lipid screening is required for the following patients: (1) those with existing coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, or peripheral vascular atherosclerosis; (2) those with hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and smoking; (3) those with a family history of coronary heart disease or atherosclerotic disease, especially those with early onset coronary heart disease or other atherosclerotic disease in their immediate family (4) people with skin yellow tumors; (5) people with familial hyperlipidemia. For men over 40 years of age and postmenopausal women, annual lipid screening is required.
