How scoliosis should be treated

Timely and proper treatment is the best way to treat scoliosis. Scoliosis treatment is mainly divided into surgical treatment and non-surgical treatment. Early detection is usually started with conservative treatment, that is, non-surgical treatment, after clinically proven effective conservative treatment is orthopedic brace external fixation treatment, wearing orthopedic external fixation brace at the same time to regularly check the X-ray of the spine, closely observe the changes in the degree of curvature of the spine. Reasonable physical exercise exercises, correction of inappropriate sitting and sleeping posture can play a supporting role in conservative treatment to varying degrees. There is no definitive evidence of effective treatment with Chinese massage and acupuncture. Depending on the type and development of scoliosis, if conservative treatment is ineffective and the scoliosis continues to worsen, surgical correction should be taken in due course. Surgical correction involves placing a metal rod, hook or screw on the scoliotic spine as a force point and then applying corrective forces to counteract the deforming forces according to various correction methods to correct the scoliotic spine as much as possible within a safe range and then fusing the spine so that the scoliotic part of the spine is permanently fused together. Scoliosis surgery has a history of more than 50 years, from the simple instrumentation and surgical techniques of two-point support and single-plane bracing of the curved segment to today’s multi-segment pedicle screw implantation, three-dimensional spatial rotation correction, and the development of complex techniques such as combined anterior-posterior surgery, multi-segment multi-rod rotation with bracing, and thoracic reconstruction for severe scoliosis, which have undergone significant changes.
