Bone metastasis refers to the process of cancer cells reaching bones through blood or other channels, where they grow and destroy normal bone tissue and bone metabolism. Common manifestations of bone metastasis include: 1. Bone pain Bone pain in the corresponding area is often the earliest manifestation of bone metastasis, which starts as local intermittent pain and then changes to continuous severe pain, and pressure or collision will increase the degree of pain. On the one hand, it is because the invasion and destruction of bone by tumor is heavier at night, and on the other hand, the patient’s attention is easily focused on the pain when it is quiet at night. 2. Fracture The earliest symptom that may appear in some patients with bone metastasis is fracture. Sudden severe pain or activity dysfunction of cancer patients suggest that fracture may occur, which is due to severe bone loss and destruction caused by cancer cells. Ribs and vertebral bones are the most vulnerable parts to fracture. 3.Other Cancer cells destroy bone, causing a large amount of bone calcium to enter the blood for a short time, triggering nausea, vomiting, panic, and even coma. In addition to pain at the fracture site and limitation of motor function, vertebral fracture may even cause paraplegia and urinary and fecal incontinence by compressing the adjacent nerves or the corresponding segment of spinal cord in severe cases. Doctor’s tip: The preferred method to diagnose bone metastasis is ECT whole-body bone scan. ECT scan is highly sensitive and can usually detect bone metastasis 3-6 months earlier than X-ray examination, and it can complete the examination of the whole body bones in one examination, which is very helpful to detect multiple lesions or even bone metastases without clinical symptoms. Some other examination methods include X-ray examination, CT scan, MRI scan, etc. Early detection, close observation, and aggressive treatment are necessary to reduce the occurrence of severe symptoms in patients with bone metastases.
