What are the stages of cancer based on?

Cancer is mainly staged according to 3 aspects: the size of the tumor and the extent of tumor invasion to the periphery, whether there is metastasis in the regional lymph nodes and whether there is distant metastasis. If the tumor is carcinoma in situ and there is no metastasis in the regional lymph nodes and distant areas, it should belong to stage 0. If the tumor is smaller and there is no metastasis in the regional lymph nodes and distant areas, it belongs to stage 1. According to the size of the tumor and the degree of outward invasion as well as the metastasis of regional lymph nodes, it is divided into stage 2 and stage 3, and the specific stage of each malignant tumor is different. If distant metastasis has occurred, regardless of the size of the local tumor and regional lymph node metastasis, it should belong to stage 4, which is commonly referred to as advanced stage. With different clinical stages, the patient’s survival period is different and the treatment plan should be chosen differently.
