What is systemic lupus erythematosus

SLE is a diffuse connective tissue disease mediated by autoimmune mechanisms and characterized by the presence of multiple autoantibodies in the serum and multi-organ and multi-system involvement. The clinical manifestations of SLE are complex and varied, and the course of the disease is prolonged and recurrent. Most patients present with fever and malaise at the beginning of the disease, and butterfly erythema is often more common in patients with SLE. The kidneys, nervous system, blood system, lungs, and digestive system can also be involved in patients with SLE, and patients with lupus may also experience joint pain and other manifestations. Once diagnosed, patients with SLE should be treated with glucocorticoids for a long time, and some immunosuppressive therapy should be chosen according to the patient’s condition.
