What does rabies secondary exposure mean?

Rabies exposure levels are promulgated by technical guidelines for rabies prevention and control, and the manner in which they are disposed of after exposure is determined according to different exposure levels: 1. Rabies exposure level I includes contact with or feeding of animals, intact skin being licked by animals or intact skin coming into contact with rabies virus or secretions or excretions of rabies cases, which generally do not require special treatment. 2. Rabies exposure level II This includes light bites on exposed skin that do not necessarily bleed, minor scratches or abrasions that do not bleed, all of which require active wound treatment and rabies vaccination. 3. Tertiary exposures are single or multiple severe skin scratches, broken skin bitten by animals, and open wounds or mucous membranes contaminated with animal secretions, which also require prompt wound treatment and rabies vaccination.
