Should I have surgery for a 0.5 stomach polyp?

Gastric polyps 0.5cm are recommended to be surgically removed, because gastric polyps less than 5mm, generally speaking, do not have a significant tendency to malignant change, and mostly belong to inflammatory polyps, patients can be advised to regularly review the gastroscopy to observe the changes of polyps. Once the patient’s gastric polyp is greater than or equal to 5mm, the chance of cancer increases significantly, and some of the polyps may even belong to adenomatous polyps, which is itself a precancerous lesion. Therefore, if a patient’s gastric polyp belongs to 5mm, the polyp can be removed by gastroscopy to achieve a better treatment effect. Gastroscopic resection is less invasive and the patient recovers more quickly. If the postoperative examination is benign, no excessive treatment is needed and regular review is sufficient. However, if the patient’s gastric polyp is a malignant neoplastic lesion, surgery is needed to expand the resection.
