Can meniscus injuries be disabling?

Meniscal injuries do not lead to disability with regular treatment. Meniscus injuries can cause pain, swelling and dysfunction of the knee joint, and in severe cases, interlocking and seizure of the knee joint, which can cause other accidental injuries when moving. Mild meniscus injuries can be treated conservatively, such as braking and resting, supporting symptomatic treatment, and allowing the meniscus to repair itself. In moderate to severe meniscus injuries, MRI or arthroscopy is required to repair or remove the meniscus depending on the condition of the meniscus. Even if the meniscus is removed, it will not cause any significant dysfunction of the knee joint. However, after the meniscus is removed, when using the knee joint again, it is important to avoid strenuous exercise and excessive impact on the knee joint, and to maintain and care for the knee joint accordingly. With the above efforts, meniscus injury will not lead to disability.
