Causes of inguinal lymph node enlargement

Inguinal lymph nodes mainly drain lymphatic fluid from the lower extremities, lower abdomen, perineum and external genitalia. Therefore, when swollen inguinal lymph nodes are seen, the first thing to consider is whether there are corresponding lesions in these areas, which can be divided into benign and malignant lesions. Benign lesions such as trauma, bacterial infection, tuberculosis infection, and some other specific infections should also be considered for the presence of malignant lesions in these areas, such as tumors. If the inguinal lymph nodes are enlarged as part of the generalized lymph nodes, systemic diseases, such as lymphoma or autoimmune diseases, should also be considered.
