Prostate cancer is one of the common malignant tumors of the male genitourinary system. With the development and progress of our society, the incidence of prostate cancer in China is rapidly increasing due to the aging of population, urbanization, westernization of dietary structure, advancement of detection technology and improvement of diagnostic level. Due to the lack of effective screening mechanism, the composition of prostate cancer cases in China is mainly in the middle and late stages. At present, there is no effective clinical treatment for mid- to late-stage prostate cancer, and how to control its metastasis, prolong the survival time and improve the quality of life is one of the major issues that need to be solved at home and abroad. At present, the main treatment methods for prostate cancer include radical prostate surgery, endocrine therapy, radiotherapy, particle implantation therapy, cryotherapy, radiofrequency ablation and so on. Argon-helium cryosurgery was first used in aerospace technology and later applied by the medical community. The 2014 edition of the Chinese Diagnostic and Treatment Guidelines for Urological Diseases states that the indications for cryosurgery for prostate cancer include limited prostate cancer and can also be used for palliative treatment of patients with metastatic prostate cancer. It is also used as a palliative local treatment for patients with metastatic prostate cancer to control local tumor development and relieve the symptoms caused by it. It is particularly suitable for patients who are older, have more underlying diseases, have high surgical risk or have poor access to other treatments, and there is no doubt that cryotherapy is another option for patients with prostate cancer. At present, our department has carried out this technology for more than 2 years and has performed cryotherapy for 18 cases of prostate cancer patients. The results show that argon helium knife cryosurgery is effective in treating prostate cancer with short hospital stay, no blood loss, little trauma and fast recovery.
