What to do if the picc is not maintained 24 hours after placement of the tube

PICC catheterization is a deep vein placement performed peripherally. If the catheter is not maintained for 24 hours after placement, it needs to be flushed and changed as soon as possible, and then observed regularly. 1. Tube flushing: If the current PICC tube has been left in place for 24 hours and blockage or thrombosis has occurred, causing swelling of the limb, it is possible that the catheter may need to be removed in this case. However, if there is no obvious blockage of the PICC tube, the tube can be flushed, and it is recommended that the tube be flushed weekly afterward to keep the tube open and to prevent it from being blocked. 2. Medication change: After placing the PICC, a medication change is usually necessary at 24-hour intervals, and the heparin cap also needs to be replaced to prevent secondary infection. Later, when the wound is gradually healing, the time of changing the medication can be adjusted to once a week. 3. Regular observation: 24 hours after the PICC tube is placed, the fixed position should also be regularly observed to see if there is any fluid exudation, skin redness, itching, etc., and timely treatment after the occurrence of abnormalities can prevent complications. It is forbidden to do strenuous exercise after PICC catheterization, otherwise it will lead to catheter displacement or dislocation. If there is any adverse reaction during the period, you should consult the doctor in time, and according to the doctor’s guidance for targeted treatment.
