The efficacy and prevention of lymphoma

Luo Jing, a famous CCTV host, passed away recently in Beijing at the age of 48 due to malignant lymphoma. Luo Jing’s untimely death has shocked and saddened many people, and has also raised the question: What is “lymphoma”? Can lymphoma be prevented? Lymphoma is a malignant tumor of the blood system that originates from lymph nodes and other lymphatic tissues. Luo Jing has “diffuse large B-cell lymphoma”, which is a moderately malignant non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the most common type of lymphoma, accounting for about 30-40% of non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas. In fact, this type of lymphoma is relatively easy to treat and has a high cure rate. Dozens of such patients are cured in our hospital every year, but unfortunately, Luo Jing did not become such a lucky person. There is no clear conclusion about the specific cause of lymphoma, however, some high-risk factors are likely to be the key factors in causing the disease, such as EBV, hepatitis virus and Helicobacter pylori virus, etc. It is also related to the immunity of human body, and those with strong immunity may have little chance to develop the disease, while some people with poor autoimmune function often become victims. What are the early symptoms of lymphoma? Patients with lymphoma often initially develop swollen lymph nodes in the neck and upper clavicle. They may also develop weakness, low fever, emaciation, night sweats and itchy skin, and some patients may also have symptoms such as epigastric pain, vomiting, diarrhea and intestinal obstruction. Compared with other tumors, the early symptoms of lymphoma are not special and can be easily ignored by people. Therefore, there are many cases of delayed treatment, and many people (including some health care professionals) often confuse lymphoma with lipoma and lymphadenitis, resulting in misdiagnosis and mistreatment. In recent years, there has been a great progress in the treatment of lymphoma, but chemotherapy is still the main treatment, along with targeted therapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, etc. Clinicians will analyze the pathological type, stage, immunological characteristics of lymphoma and the overall health status of patients in the process of lymphoma diagnosis and treatment, and adopt individualized treatment strategies on this basis. In fact, with standardized treatment at an early stage in a specialty, lymphoma patients can have a 5-year survival rate of more than 60%, with some types having a 10-year survival rate of 60% to 70% and a low relapse rate. To prevent lymphoma, we should avoid long-term chronic infections as much as possible, avoid long-term exposure to radiation, avoid exposure to toxic and harmful substances such as benzene and formaldehyde in life, develop regular living and eating habits, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, stay away from crops abusing pesticides and insecticides, do not smoke and do not abuse alcohol, etc. You can also frequently feel your neck, armpit and groin, and if you find enlarged lymph nodes, you should go to the hospital in time for early detection and treatment.
