picc catheter tip position

The full name of PICC placement is central venous catheterization via peripheral venous puncture, where the tip of the catheter is inserted into the peripheral vein to reach the central vein, which is the superior vena cava. The tip of the catheter is required to be in the superior vena cava near the right atrium, generally the lower and middle 1/3 of the superior vena cava, which is the most appropriate place to see the tip of the catheter between the 5-6 rib space when a chest radiograph is performed after the PICC catheter is inserted. If the catheter is positioned high, there is a possibility that the tip is not in the central vein after the catheter is slipped. If the catheter is low, there is a risk of the catheter entering the heart, and the PICC catheter can be used for dripping chemotherapy drugs and intravenous high nutrition drugs. The PICC should also be cared for once a week to avoid infection of the PICC catheter.
