Various treatments for neck and shoulder pain

With the widespread use of computers, cell phones, etc., people’s daily lifestyles have changed greatly, and many office workers have neck and shoulder pain, dizziness, headache, arm numbness and other discomforts, and the patients who come to the clinic are mainly young adults, and even some school children have the corresponding symptoms. The familiar “cervical spondylosis” has become a part of many people’s lives. In fact, “cervical spondylosis” is not serious, but the onset of a great impact on life, some people onset of neck pain, limited mobility (can not turn the head), some people manifested as a headache, and even some will appear dizziness and vomiting symptoms. If you have neck and shoulder pain or have been diagnosed with cervical spondylosis by your doctor, how should you treat it? The causes of cervical spondylosis are diversified, and each patient’s condition is different, so it is necessary to take into account the patient’s individual situation and carry out targeted comprehensive treatment. (1) Posture therapy: the occurrence of cervical spondylosis is mostly related to posture. Some patients use computers and cell phones for a long time, or maintain a posture of head down and head forward, which makes the cervical vertebrae have poor force lines, leading to muscle and fascia strain, and then osteomalacia occurs. For this type of patients, it is necessary to actively correct the bad posture, correct posture training, so that the cervical spine is in a better line of force, so that the strength of the muscles around the cervical spine is balanced, the joints are evenly distributed, to avoid excessive tension in the local muscles. Correct sitting posture is shown in Figure 1: (2) physical therapy: many patients are more familiar with physical therapy, know that cervical spondylosis can do traction, electrotherapy, etc.. Traction therapy can relieve muscle spasm, medium-frequency pulse electrotherapy, low-frequency pulse electrotherapy can relax the muscles, these treatments can improve the patient’s symptoms. (3) Manipulation therapy: Manipulation therapy in rehabilitation therapy is based on the knowledge of modern anatomy, biomechanics, myokinesis and other related disciplines to deal with the patient’s symptoms such as pain and activity limitation, and to correct the patient’s abnormal movement pattern, which is different from what the patient understands by the term “massage therapy”. For patients with cervical and shoulder pain, manipulation therapy can improve pain and head and neck movement and other symptoms; at the same time, it can also assist the patient to carry out some corresponding training. (4) Exercise therapy: Patients with cervical spondylosis must also undergo exercise therapy, which includes postural training, stability training, muscle strength training and so on. The following are some simple exercise methods, but according to the different conditions of each patient, it is also necessary to listen to the doctor’s treatment recommendations. Cervical spine range of motion training: sitting or standing position, relax the neck, respectively, forward flexion, backward extension, lateral flexion and rotation of the neck, each direction of the action repeated 5 times. This can be repeated every 30 min. (Isometric Contraction Exercise: Sit or stand, relax the neck, apply forward, backward, left and right resistance by hand, keep the neck in a neutral position, maintain for 5 seconds and then relax, repeat 3-5 times. (As shown in Figure 3) ③ Neck flexor muscle group training: sitting or standing position, close the jaw backward, feel the muscles at the back of the head being stretched, maintain for 5 seconds, repeat 3-5 times. (As shown in Figure 4) For patients with neck and shoulder pain, only through comprehensive rehabilitation therapy and adjustments based on the patient’s individual situation can we achieve a good therapeutic effect.
