Can surgery cure prostate cancer?

Radical surgery can be considered for early stage prostate cancer, i.e., stage T1-T2 tumors that are confined to the prostate envelope. In addition, radical surgery should be recommended only for patients with general conditions, such as expected life expectancy greater than 10 years, no serious cardiopulmonary disease, and good general condition. The traditional surgery is open surgery, which has a lot of damage, slow recovery and complications. In recent years, there are laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, which have reduced surgical injuries and complications, and nearly half of the patients in the United States have already undergone the latest generation of robotic surgery, which is the future direction of radical prostate cancer surgery and has made radical surgery available to more patients. Of course some patients will have recurrence after undergoing radical surgery, which requires regular post-operative review for early detection and further other treatment measures.
