Early acupuncture treatment for facial palsy

Recently, a woman who came to the rehabilitation department of Zhongshan Hospital in Hubei Province complained that when she came home from work the day before yesterday, it was raining and windy, and she did not feel any discomfort at that time. He was diagnosed by Dr. Dai Wei as having facial palsy. The main manifestation of facial palsy is distortion of the mouth and eyes, especially the weakness of closing the eyes on the affected side, which can occur regardless of gender and age, with the majority of young adults. Facial palsy should be detected and treated as early as possible. The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed acupuncture as the primary treatment for facial palsy. Acupuncture can mediate the local meridians and blood vessels of the face, dispel the wind and cold, and open up the channels, so that they can be filled up and organized, and the meridians and tendons can be nourished, and the facial palsy will recover. The most prominent advantage of acupuncture is that it can achieve better treatment results more quickly and minimize the chance of sequelae. Facial palsy is generally divided into the developmental, resting and recovery phases. Usually, acupuncture is performed during the resting phase after 7 days of onset. In fact, this treatment method is somewhat conservative, and acupuncture can also be used during the developmental stage. In addition, a combination of flashing jars, laser, moxibustion, and facial massage can be used. Because early acupuncture treatment can accelerate the local blood circulation, promote the decreasing of inflammation and edema, and speed up the recovery of facial palsy. After treatment, 80% of patients can be cured. If less than treatment, facial nerve muscle function recovery is not complete, facial palsy sequelae will occur.
