Amlodipine is a calcium antagonist. It belongs to the dihydropyridine class of drugs. Amlodipine is used in essential hypertension, chronic stable angina and variant angina. It prevents calcium ions from crossing the membrane into the heart muscle and vascular smooth muscle cells. Symptoms such as dry mouth, increased sweating, weakness, backache, general malaise, pain, change in bowel habits, dyspepsia (including gastritis), gingival hyperplasia, pancreatitis, and vomiting may be experienced after taking the drug; the drug may be discontinued for observation when symptoms are mild, and in severe cases, medical attention should be sought immediately. It is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to dihydropyridines or any of the components in this product, in patients with severe hypotension, and in patients with severe aortic stenosis. There is a lack of information on appropriate studies on the use of the drug in pregnant women, but according to the results of animal experiments, this product should be used in pregnant women only when very necessary. It is not known whether the product can be secreted through breast milk, and breastfeeding should be discontinued in nursing women taking the drug. Amlodipine is a prescription drug and is recommended to be taken as prescribed by a doctor.
