In outpatient clinics in spring, summer, autumn and winter, indoors and outdoors, we often see some patients who wear sunglasses and masks to hide the expression on their faces, often causing other patients to look at them sideways. What is underneath the sunglasses and masks? The actual fact is that they just have a disease commonly known as “crooked mouth wind”, called facial paralysis in Chinese medicine, let us unveil its mysterious veil layer by layer below! Chinese medicine called facial palsy, that is, the folk “crooked mouth”, “crooked mouth”, “hanging line wind”, “hanging slant wind” It is not a contagious disease, but mostly due to the feeling of wind-cold evil, many patients will have a history of cold, fatigue and depression before the onset. The disease is more frequent in autumn and winter, with a higher incidence in middle-aged and elderly people than in young people, and a higher incidence in men than in women. There is no significant difference in season, age and gender. Most patients suddenly find that one side of the face does not move well and the mouth is crooked when washing the face or rinsing the mouth in the early morning. Some patients find it at lunchtime or on the way to work by electric car. When patients come to the hospital for examination, they can see that their facial muscles are completely paralyzed, their forehead lines disappear, their eye fissures are enlarged, their nasolabial folds are flattened, the corners of their mouths droop, and the corners of their mouths are skewed to the healthy side when they show their teeth. The patient is unable to make movements such as frowning, frowning, closing the eyes, puffing and pouting. When puffing the cheeks and whistling, the affected side of the mouth cannot be closed and the air leaks. In severe cases, there may be diminished or absent taste, diminished or allergic hearing, and pain behind the ear, which is caused by the virus invading the geniculate ganglion. There are many treatments for facial palsy and there is no unified norm. Depending on the condition, symptomatic treatments such as surgery, western medicine, Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture can be performed. The efficacy also varies. Our department adopts the original Yin-Yang balancing acupuncture therapy, using the theory of Chinese medicine meridians, dialectical analysis of the disease, using different treatment means at different times, playing the characteristics of Chinese medicine acupuncture, received good results. At the same time of hospital treatment, patients should also pay attention to facial warmth, wear masks and glasses, wash their faces with warm water, reduce the stimulation of light sources, adjust their mood, work and rest reasonably, and face the disease with a positive state of mind. So how should we prevent facial palsy from happening in general? First of all, learn to self-adjust, avoid all kinds of mental stimulation and excessive fatigue, and maintain a good state of mind. Secondly, strengthen the susceptibility and resistance to wind and cold, choose running, walking and other suitable sports, and finally, pay attention to a reasonable diet and eat less greasy and indigestible food.
