Many persistent mental disorders, including mental retardation with aggressive-self-injurious behavior, obsessive-compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, and aggressive-self-injurious behavior due to certain personality disorders, can be treated surgically. Our stereotactic deep brain structure destruction treatment for intractable mental disorders is guided by high intensity magnetic field MRI or spiral CT, and uses radiofrequency electrodes to destroy deep brain structures with multiple targets to achieve control of mental symptoms. The error of the surgical target is within 2mm. Since it is a high precision surgery with high technical content, it causes little damage to the patient’s brain tissue, short hospitalization time, and very few serious surgical complications. As a last resort in the treatment of persistent mental disorders, the efficiency of stereotactic deep brain structure destruction is over 80%.
