Schizophrenia (schizophrenia) is a group of psychiatric disorders of unknown etiology, with abnormalities in various aspects of thinking, emotion, and behavior, characterized by incompatibility between mental activity and the environment. As with adults, there are no medications specifically for children and adolescents with schizophrenia. However, children and adolescents are at a stage of growth and development, and the development of liver and kidney function, central nervous system and endocrine system is not yet complete. 1, before the use of drugs should be done physical, neurological examination, laboratory tests, etc., a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s condition, especially to clarify whether there are abnormalities in liver, kidney and heart function, neurological diseases, in order to focus on the selection of drugs, and to help assess the adverse reactions after the use of drugs is due to drugs or the original manifestations of existing diseases. 2, in the use of drugs, should try to clarify the diagnosis, clear need to treat the main symptoms. 3, children and adolescents are more sensitive to drug therapy, faster metabolism, the need to take a low dose to start, gradually increase the dose, the method of divided doses. 4. The dose of medication should be individualized, and the speed of addition and maximum dose should depend on the patient’s response to medication. 5. Since the indicated age for many antipsychotic drugs is more than 13 years old, it is important to obtain informed consent from parents and patients before using the drugs. 6. Specific medications should be used under the guidance of a psychiatrist. For patients with first-episode schizophrenia, we recommend as much as possible a single medication. However, if during the acute phase of the disease episode, the patient is accompanied by other conditions such as anxiety and depression, hyperactivity, and compulsions, and they have a greater impact on the patient, combining the corresponding adjuvant medications is also recommended. After the concomitant symptoms are controlled, the corresponding adjuvant medication can be gradually discontinued. For patients who have recurrent episodes and who have not been treated with a full course of multiple medications, we recommend a combination of medications, which should be of different types.
