Difference between routine blood tests for venous blood and finger blood

There is no significant difference in red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells between routine venous blood and finger blood, but for the rest of the test results, venous blood is more accurate. Finger blood is taken from the fingertip of the ring finger, while venous blood is mainly taken from the vein in the arm socket. The amount of blood taken from finger blood is smaller and there are more peripheral nerves, so it may feel relatively more painful, and the accuracy of finger blood is affected by hand temperature, personnel operation, etc., and the results may be somewhat unstable. Venous blood collection is not as painful, and although the volume taken is larger, the vacuum blood collection system contains an anticoagulant and the specimen is more evenly mixed, so it is less affected by human factors. Although more blood is drawn from a vein, the test results will be more accurate and stable, and will be of higher value to the clinician’s judgment.
