Most of the spitting up after waking up in the morning is caused by chronic pharyngitis or chronic bronchitis, and this symptom may also occur in the case of sinusitis and rhinitis, and if there is blood in the sputum, most of it is caused by the rupture of small local blood vessels. When sleeping at night, if the air in the room is dry, or if the fire is serious, it is easy to have blood in the sputum, which usually requires active treatment with drugs to clear heat and remove fire and phlegm. If this condition occurs frequently, it should also be considered to be caused by bronchiectasis or tuberculosis, both of which have a long course and require a CT examination of the lungs and a sputum tuberculosis test if tuberculosis is suspected. If the symptoms are caused by tuberculosis, anti-TB medication is needed. If the symptoms occur in elderly people who smoke frequently, lung cancer should also be considered.
