Children can also get cataracts, which we call congenital cataracts, which exist before and after birth or gradually form after birth. The causes can be divided into three main categories: 1. Genetic factors: the most common cause, the mode of inheritance is variable and can be inherited consecutively. Many genes related to the causation of congenital cataracts have been identified. Adults with congenital cataracts are recommended to undergo eugenic counseling.
2. Environmental factors: is another important cause. Especially in the first trimester of the mother’s pregnancy, viral infections may cause clouding of the lens, rubella virus infection being the most common. In addition, malnutrition during pregnancy, hypoxia, prematurity, certain drugs (high doses of tetracycline, hormones, salicylic acid preparations, anticoagulants, etc.), and certain systemic diseases in young children (heart disease, nephritis, diabetes, anemia, hyperthyroidism, hand and foot convulsions, etc.) may lead to fetal lens dysplasia.
3, the cause is unknown: most of the cases are disseminated.
