Should I take calcium supplements if I have kidney stones?

The kidney stones were finally cleared after several extracorporeal lithotripsy with Chinese herbal medicine. The company’s main business is to provide a wide range of products and services to its customers. The actual fact is that you will be able to find out that you’ve got a lot more than just a couple of years to go. On the one hand, the urologist told her that she must pay close attention to her diet to prevent the possibility of kidney stones again; on the other hand, she was diagnosed with osteoporosis and must take calcium supplements to prevent it. She was worried that calcium tablets might lead to stones. Kidney stones and osteoporosis exist at the same time, should I take calcium supplements or not? It’s really a dilemma! A 1997 research article in the Journal of the American Society of Clinical Nutrition states that a diet high in calcium not only does not induce stones, but also has a stone prevention effect. Why? Because the main component of kidney stones is calcium oxalate, which is caused by high oxalic acid in the body and is not directly related to blood calcium. The cause of high oxalic acid in the blood is mainly due to the high oxalic acid content in common foods and drinks such as tea, cauliflower, spinach and bamboo shoots, etc. The formation of stones is also related to the body type or certain metabolic and inflammatory diseases. Therefore, although many people try to avoid a diet high in oxalic acid, the effect of stone prevention is still very limited, and the general public also has a misconception that high calcium may induce stones. Furthermore, if we eat foods high in oxalic acid while consuming foods high in calcium (such as taking calcium tablets), the calcium will combine with oxalic acid in the intestine to form insoluble calcium oxalate precipitates, and although this will result in the loss of some dietary calcium, it will also prevent oxalic acid from being absorbed into the bloodstream and excreted in the feces. Therefore, the prevention and treatment of kidney stones and osteoporosis is not a contradiction, so there is no need to be afraid to take calcium tablets for the prevention of kidney stones.
