Superficial varicose veins of the lower extremities are a clinical manifestation of chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremities. It is most likely to appear in special groups who are engaged in standing work for a long time, such as nurses, teachers, surgeons, mall salesmen and pregnant women. Yang Tao of vascular surgery department of Shanxi University Hospital can increase the pressure of thrombus in the veins of lower limbs by standing, sitting or weight-bearing for a long time, which makes the veins dilate and the valves lose their one-way opening effect, and finally leads to superficial varicose veins. The current international treatment of varicose veins in the lower extremities is performed in three main areas: foam sclerotherapy, surgical spot stripping technique, and rotary, radiofrequency or laser treatment. Foam sclerotherapy is highly regarded and respected by medical experts at home and abroad because of its simple operation, safety and reliability, light patient pain and small trauma, etc., and has been well received by patients. In 2006, the Second European Coordination Meeting on Foam Sclerotherapy was held in Germany, which considered that the application and promotion of foam sclerotherapy has revived sclerotherapy as minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins. In recent years, the literature on the clinical application of foam sclerotherapy for the treatment of varicose veins in the lower extremities has increasingly appeared in the mainstream journals of vascular surgery, and the prospect of its application is appreciated by all. In 2013, our hospital was the first to carry out this new technique in Dongguan city. Sclerotherapy is the injection of chemicals into the lumen of blood vessels, perivascular, cystic cysts and body cavities, which cause the destruction of the intima of blood vessels due to chemical inflammation and mutual adhesion and tissue fibrosis in order to achieve the purpose of treating the disease. Foam sclerotherapy is developed on the basis of traditional sclerotherapy, which overcomes the shortcomings of traditional sclerotherapy, minimizes complications and recurrence rates, and widens the indications, making it as effective as traditional surgery in treating varicose veins in the lower extremities. At present, our hospital mainly treats varicose veins of lower extremities with foam made of imported drug polydocanol and domestic drug polyglactin injection, and obtains good results in terms of beauty and efficacy.
